The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures was founded at the same time as the Faculty of Arts and Masaryk University. It provides teaching in the field of Romance languages, literature and realities. More than 700 students are currently studying here, including 40 students in doctoral studies. The Bachelor's and Master'sprogrammes, both full-time and combined, focus on French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese language and literature. In addition to the core subjects, Catalan, Basque and Romanian are also taught here. In the master's cycle, the philology studies are accompanied by a programme in secondary school teaching.
